Mental Health For Youth Initiative

Artvocacy

Transforming creativity into a safe, powerful movement where young people express, connect, and heal through art.

Nigeria’s mental health conversation has largely ignored the most powerful tool already in young people’s hands: their creativity. One of the most accessible pathways to healing remains completely untapped.

Artvocacy is an annual creative campaign that uses art, poetry, music, and performance as a doorway into mental health by creating space for young people to express the inexpressible, start difficult conversations, and find community in what they create.

Healing Through Art

Quite a revolution; one that meets people where words often fail. Artvocacy creates a space where emotions don’t have to be explained to be valid, where a brushstroke, a lyric, or a performance can carry the weight of lived experience. In these moments, expression becomes release, and release becomes the beginning of healing.

This is your call to be part of something meaningful. To help create spaces where young people feel seen, heard, and held. To turn creativity into connection, and connection into healing. Step in, build with us, and help transform stories into strength.

Artvocacy blends creativity, community, and care into a safe, scalable platform where young people express themselves, access support, and spark conversations that extend far beyond the event.

How it works -
Step by Step

Step 1

We create the space

Each edition of Artvocacy is a hybrid event that brings together artists, young people, mental health professionals, and communities around creative expression and honest conversation.

Step 2

We make safety non-negotiable

On-site therapists and dedicated safe spaces are built into every event, ensuring that what is shared is also held, and that no one leaves without support if they need it.

Step 3

We amplify the work

Performances, exhibits, and stories are documented and shared across platforms, turning one day into an ongoing campaign that reaches far beyond the event itself.

Step 4

We grow the movement

Starting in Abuja and expanding to other Nigerian states and partner countries each year, Artvocacy grows with its community, deepening partnerships with creative hubs like the Abuja Literary Society and scaling the conversation on mental health through the power of culture.
