Mental Health For Youth Initiative

National Policy Dialogue

On the 25th-26th of August, 2025, the Executive Director of the Mental Health for Youth Initiative (MHYI), Lucy Abeng, served as a panelist at the National Policy Dialogue in Abuja themed “The Future of Adolescent and Youth Sexual Reproductive Health and Development in Nigeria.”

Representing MHYI, she emphasized the need for effective implementation of the Mental Health Act, the inclusive rollout of the Yo!-Health Plan, and rebuilding trust between policymakers and young people.

Her remarks reinforced MHYI’s advocacy that mental well-being and sexual reproductive health are inseparable. Stable mental health enables young people to make informed decisions, maintain healthy relationships, and seek help without stigma.

MHYI remains committed to ensuring that mental health is recognized as a cornerstone of youth development in Nigeria. We also call on donors, advocates, and partners to help us spread the good news we are spreading across the globe.
